3 /5 Rebecca C: A beautifully designed space with two curtained off areas for private dining.
Located next to Coles on Level 1.
When making a reservation I specifically asked if they had live fish in a tank.
We ordered steamed barramundi, usually fish that is cooked immediately will have a texture where the meat will be firm and flake off in pieces. The fish we received was soft and mushy in certain areas, a classic sign this is frozen fish.
- steamed barramundi from the tank (1/10)
For a true Cantonese seafood restaurant the fish will be brought to your table alive, this step was missing. When we arrived the tank had 1 fish. When we left the tank still had one fish and when we observed further this fish does not move! Its just part of the decoration.
Truly disappointing experience.
I recommend Eastwood Seafood Restaurant for their steamed barramundi, they also may not present the live fish but you can tell they really prepare using live fish / Oceanic Taste in Rhodes / Phoenix in Rhodes
- sweet and sour pork with lychee (10/10)
This was the best out of all dishes. Nice quality pork that was not fatty.
- seasonal veg with mushroom with garlic (3/10)
Turned out to be bok choy with oyster mushroom. The bok choy not cleaned properly bits of black grime at the base, its important to soak boy choy with bicard soda to adequately remove. Missing flavour, there was no noticeable garlic flavour and no wok hei.
- Xiao long bao with pork and black truffle (3/10)
This dish came out last and it was not steamed properly the top was still doughy. I could taste truffle oil. It was five pieces.
- pippis with pan fried noodle in XO sauce (3/10)
Pippis didnt taste fresh, the portion was excellent but not much flavour at all or wok hei.
Overall would not recommend or come back unless the criteria is to eat somewhere with beautiful decor. In terms of ambiance its open seating so it can get noisy if they are upset children. Recommend you book the private area for large groups.
We went on a Monday night so its possible the Head chef was off. There were only 3 tables when we went in, a telling sign.
A dissapointing experience food wise. It $60 a head for 4 adults.
