Birrawanna walking track - NSW

Sean Nairn Short, but medium to hard grade walk from the Kalkari visitor centre to the main area of Bobbin Head. Allow at least 90 minutes for the return walk - despite being only 4km in length it is heavy going in some parts and your fitness level will have an impact on how long it takes. Alternatively you can get someone with a car to meet you at the other end. The Bobbin Head end of the track has toilets, water and food available. You can also access Apple Tree Bay from this track.

Fire Fighters Rest Memorial - NSW

Sean Nairn Located in Kuring-Gai Chase National Park, this memorial commemorates four National Parks and Wildlife Service officers who died fighting a bushfire in 2000. The memorial is a clear recognition of the value that that community places on the work undertaken by National Parks and Wildlife Service staff, both in bush regeneration and hazard reduction programs. In particular, the memorial commemorates the lives of those four officers whose work related directly to protecting the homes of local residents from bushfire. The memorial is located about 5 metres off the Mt Kuringai to Berowra track, on the western side of the ridge - about 30 minutes walk from Mt Kuringai station. There is a panoramic view over the valley and a bronze plaque set into the rock, as well as a seat made from bush rock. Take care as there are sheer drops off the cliff edge and its not fully fenced.

Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden - NSW

Elisabeth Lindsey Perfect place for events and gatherings and hikes. The welcome center has cute botanical gifts for sale and a native plants nursery out back. Out front they have labelled plants in water showing you whats in bloom for the season. Lots of unique landscapes to explore and so much space for kids and hikes. The public restroom by the pavilion was tiled with hand painted native plants and I loved the details. (:

james cole Fantastic waterfalls with small swimming spot directly under the waterfall, reminded me of a shampoo advertisement!! Very steep hike down the valley with several wooden ladders and stairs, and obviously it seemed steeper going back up! If you’re not fit don’t attempt it.

Sphinx Memorial to Bobbin Head loop track - NSW

Ernie Shepherd To save on the park entry fee, I parked outside the national park, which worked out perfectly. I tackled the loop in an anti-clockwise direction, and I have to say, it was the best decision! The most picturesque part of the walk runs along the river, with stunning views of Cowan Creek. The combination of gorgeous trees and natural shade made it an absolute treat. I took a 30-minute break at Bobbin Head to sip some water and use the facilities, which was a great midway point. The return leg was much simpler—a straight path with not much scenery—but it made for an easy way to finish the walk. Overall, the track was relatively easy, and the whole experience, including the break, took me just under three hours. If you’re looking for a walk that’s accessible and not too challenging, with some truly stunning views along the way, this one’s worth checking out!
