1 /5 Heather Bell: Wildly overpriced & awful colouring, save your hair and money! Went to hair x rara Dural salon for a full head of foils, trim & blowdry - won’t name the hairdresser. $400, which is definitely on the higher end of being pricey but I was happy to pay it, expecting a beautiful colour. Could have gone to Just Cuts for a better job.
Simple roots touch up with blonde foils on a lifelong blonde, nothing fancy at all. Ended up with these wild tiger stripes on the top of my head, and when I went home I realised as soon as I tied up my hair/had a proper look through it that there were MASSIVE thick sections of hair that just had not been coloured at all, she completely skipped sections as you can see in the photos. Anytime I tie up my hair for work now I have big solid sections of regrowth that stand out from a mile away and give me flashbacks to being 13 and trying to box dye your roots at home for the first time.
I have honestly never complained to a hairdresser about their work before, this was my first time. I sent the salon a message which was extremely gentle and apologetic for complaining, but sent these photos of my hair and explained that I wanted to talk about a partial refund (not full, I really treated the situation with understanding). Got a call from a manager at the salon who didn’t manage the conversation all that well. Wasn’t easy to stay calm & kind when it felt like I was talking to a 17 year old high school mean girl who never grew up. Zero apologies or acknowledgement of the clear evidence in the photos of a hack hair job. Kept repeating ‘we can’t just hand out $400’ despite me assuring her I wasn’t asking for the full amount. Asked her what she thought of the photos more than once and she wouldn’t answer. Was told Rara would get in contact to sort it out. Missed one call from her (I’m a doctor and can’t always answer immediately if I’m with a patient or emergency) and I called her back (no answer) and texted asking for a call back (no answer, ever).
Never heard from anyone again. $400 later and I look like I drank a bottle of wine, tried to give myself home highlights, and fell asleep halfway through. Give hair x rara a miss.
The biggest issue is not that this business has provided a poor service, but that this business and its management are unable or unwilling to humble themselves for their customers and acknowledge when there’s been a problem and rectify it with any kind of empathy or understanding. There seems to be an attitude of immediate defensiveness and blaming the customer, and that’s really where they lost me. It seems to be the tone they have when replying to other complaints on Google review as well. They offered to redo my hair but I couldn’t bring myself to spend several further hours of my time and trust sitting in a business like this.
There are plenty of smaller locals around our beautiful hills who will do a better job for half the price and in half the time, and who will communicate with you with compassion if anything goes awry.
